Online At Home

"I don't think they're coming."
-Dad

This morning it started raining. Then it started downpouring and storming, complete with thunder that was instantaneous with the lightning, so I unplugged my computer. I started wondering whether or not the internet was going to even happen today.

Low and behold, the rain eventually let up and two guys knocked on my door to install my internet connection. An hour later, and now I'm posting my first ever blog post from home. It's cool, even if my Internet Explorer decided not to work. On the bright side, Firefox works just fine. If only I had time to enjoy my new home internet connection, but alas it's time to get ready to go to campus, then to the bar, which means my next chance of breaking in my new modem will be sometime after eleven or so tonight. Ah well, such is life.

But the nice thing...after 11:00 tonight you can surf all you want. You can stay up until the wee hours just posting and commenting and avoiding all the real work that the rest of us do...

Whatever do you mean? What's this "real work" you're talking about? I've never heard of it.

Congratulations, Ali. Fingers crossed that I, too, will again have internet connectivity at home soon. I spent a lot of time last night yelling at the poor little Qwest 'customer service' people. So either I'll have a new modem tomorrow or they'll send it somewhere in Lithuania just to spite me.

"I'm sorry to hear that, Debbie." The line they use every single time you call with a complaint.

And I'm usually so nice.

Ouch, that hurts. The only thing I can think of more frustrating than tech problems is talking to customer service people about them. They try, they really do, but it's usually more painful than helpful.

I can think of something more frustrating. Say, for instance, I was your tech support contact. Then where would you be? Notice the rhetorical tone of the typed out question.

I much prefer fake work over real work. It's much more relaxing.
