During a dinner I had with Jay Udall, he said, "Writing poetry is dancing with the dwende," a line that has stuck with me since. Beyond just poetry, any creative act is ultimately based in the idea of reaching out and touching the mythical, of embracing the unknown and unknowable. This blog is about the dance.

The First Line
Spurred on by getting a story accepted, I've been cruising duotrope, researching more places to submit. I want to pass on one particular publication, because I think it'd be a fun adventure. It's called The First Line and it's rather reminiscent of WP Wednesdays. They provide a first line, you write a story to go with it, and the ones they like the best are published in the next issue.

Fun!
Did you read the part about four-parters? Where you take all four of their first lines for the year and make it into a four-part story? It's gotta be submitted in whole by 2/1 but they'll publish each section in the appropriate issue. That sounded like fun.
Especially with those 4 first lines.
