Finished the book. Still liking the series better. Not only does Sookie cry less (she cries all the damn time in the book), most of the supporting characters, especially Bill, are more interesting and that makes me like them more. And, most sadly, Tara doesn't even exist in the first book.
So, at the end of competition: TV beats book.

I haven't seen the television series. It's funny, because I don't disagree with you about the book. I rated it so high because it is that much better than so many of the other cozies out there.
Which is why I'm taking a break from them.
Breaks can be a beautiful thing :)
